Jharkhand government push for Ayush university Dhritiman Ray | TNN
Ranchi: The state government on Friday put in an informal request to the Centre for setting up a university-cum-research centre for ayurvedic, yunani and naturopathy, siddha and homeopathy (Ayush) medicines in the state.
State health minister Ramchandra Chandravanshi requisitioned for an Ayush university in Ranchi to Union minister of state for Ayush (independent charge) Sriprasad Yasso Naik besides dedicated 50-bedded Ayush hospitals in districts and health dispensaries in every block as part of the Centre's National Ayush Mission of 2015.
"Indian medicines are still quite popular across the state, especially among the rural people," Chandravanshi said at the inauguration of a three-day wellness fair and conclave in Dhurwa. "While hospitals and dispensaries will directly benefit the people, the university will contribute to research and development," he added.
At the state-level, the ruling NDA government had sanctioned rupees two crore in December last year for strengthening its existing Ayush centers and the directorate. Furthermore, the state is also pushing for giving Horopathy (healing practice in tribal communities) official status in the next fiscal.
"Jharkhand is a rich repository of herbs, plants and shoots and the atmosphere is congenial to the cultivation of many more. The state will become the hot spot cultivation centre and biggest supplier for Ayush medicines across India," Naik said, adding that market linkages will also play a key role in this. Naik said the Centre will look into the state's requisition and will provide every help in strengthening Ayush healthcare in Jharkhand. The two colleges in Chaibasa and Giridih will begin operations in the next financial year. We have already hired 400 specialist Ayush doctors and more recruitments are to be made," health secretary K Vidyasagar said.
