Population Services International, India is a registered Indian Society dedicated to the improvement of public health in India. Over the past twenty years, PSI has collaborated with the GoI and a number of donors to increase the use of modern contraception for family planning, to provide products and services for the health of mothers and children and to decrease the spread of HIV/AIDS. PSI harnesses the vitality of the private sector to address health problems of the low-income and vulnerable populations using social marketing to achieve positive behaviour change by promoting ideas, products and services conducive to better health. PSI promotes and distributes 11 health products, using commercial channels and outlets to make available quality health products at affordable prices. The basket of products includes condoms, oral contraceptives, intra uterine devices, emergency contraceptives, ORS, water purification solutions; IFA tablets; clean delivery kits and pre-packaged STI treatment kit. Presently, PSI is implementing Project Axshya in 60 districts across 10 states which is working towards the objective of increasing the reach, visibility and effectiveness of Government of India’s Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme (RNTCP) since 2010. PSI also plans to pilot counseling services for MDR-TB patients in about 30 project districts to enhance adherence and improve treatment outcomes. Counseling activities are planned across the larger districts with higher prevalence of multi- drug resistant (MDR) cases. The MDR TB patients will be provided counseling through trained counselors, hired on a contractual basis.
A. POSITION PURPOSE:
With support from The Global Fund, PSI is undertaking a TB related ACSM project in Haryana, Punjab, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh to strengthen State & District RNTCP. The objective of this program is to increase TB case detection and comply with RNTCP TB treatment adherence. For this purpose PSI is looking to hire services of a suitable person as “Program Associate” in the district, who can be entrusted with the district level implementation of the project. The person would need to work in close coordination with the concerned district RNTCP officials and with proper guidance of the concerned District TB Officer.
B. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Ensure good advocacy with Dist. RNTCP.
• Ensure participation in a RNTCP district level review on monthly/weekly basis.
• Ensure timely reporting to District TB officer of the respective districts.
• Identify, select and map project implementation site (slums, low income settlement or any other marginal & vulnerable population in the district).
• Identify and train 30 Community Volunteers in these locations and ensure daily reporting from them.
• To supervise grassroots level communication activities undertaken by the community volunteers.
• To ensure detection of targeted TB case detection in the district.
• To ensure targeted Sputum Collection & Transportation through community volunteers in the district.
• To identify and engage AYUSH health care providers in order to link them with RNTCP for TB case detection and to become DOTS provider.
• Ensure monthly reporting from AYUHS providers.
• Identify and create awareness among private labs for serology test ban.
• Conduct counseling sessions of MDR TB cases.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports and submit them to DTO and PSI state HO on timely basis.
• Effective and judicious use of all the communication tools (flip charts, brochures etc) and reporting the effectiveness of each tool in the locations.
• To carry out other assignments as stipulated by the management time to time.
• Ensure proper financial management as per PSI standards
C. QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Graduate/Graduate in Psychology/Social Work/Sociology/Anthropology.
• Experience with TB or any other community health issue preferred.
• Should be proficient in using computer applications like MS Word, Excel and Power Point
D. SKILLS:
• Excellent communication skills in local language.
• Willingness to travel extensively within program district.
