The experts also pointed out that hepatitis is 28 times more unsafe than AIDS as it does not show symptoms even as diseases spreads gradually in the patient.Taking a major step ahead to combat Hepatitis about whose subsistence almost 75 percent individuals are unaware in India, the country’s foremost gastroenterologists have declared that an online registry will soon get underway in order to record the growing numbers of hepatitis patients, as per media reports. “The aim is to keep a record of the number of people suffering from hepatitis and other liver diseases caused by it in the country”, the doctor said. The registry is the part of Newly formed INA for the live study and current perspective liver disease which is constituted by the leading gastroenterologists of India. The states most affected by the disease are Punjab, Haryana, Odisha, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. Every year more than 4 lakh people die due to liver disease a result of hepatitis India.The team will also be responsible for circulating information on hepatitis to the regional hospitals as well as help the health clinics situated in the distant places of India obtain the required medicine supply for treating the disease. He said it was important to create the necessary awareness on the disease and also provide extensive screening for all the five types of Hepatitis (A, B, C, D and E), noting that, this would help in knowing the right number of people, who are actually infected with the disease. But, because the symptoms are not seen, the person gets to know about it only when the virus causes liver cancer. With an estimated 500 million people now living with hepatitis, reported by the World Health Organisation (WHO), 2013, Nigeria and the rest of the world face severe health challenges if nothing is done to curtail the disease. Through the registry, Acharya said, the hot spots of Hepatitis across the country can be brought into lime light and accordingly medical healthcare in those areas can be improved, precisely the treatment for liver diseases. He said unsafe injections accounted for 33 per cent of new Hepatitis B infections and that 8 billion injections a year are given unnecessarily, noting that, 70 per cent of injected medication could be administered orally.
