BENGALURU: Ayurvedic, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) doctors working under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) have decided to go ahead with their indefinite strike after Wednesday’s talks with the Health Department failed. They have also decided to meet Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Dr Shivalingappa, Class 1 officer (AYUSH) said, “A delegation led by Dr Madhukar, an Ayush medical officer under the NRHM Karnataka Ayush Doctors’ Association has met the minister seeking his help ... but the minister said that they can go ahead with the protest ... he did not bother to address their concerns and threatened to hire new doctors.” Health Minister U T Khader said that their demands cannot be met as they are employees under a national scheme. “The state government gave a 10 per cent hike on humanitarian grounds. The state can only pay NRHM employees here based on the funds we get from the Centre,” he added. The minister also added that those seeking a hike from Rs 15,000 to Rs 28,000 will have to re-apply for the post. “These doctors joined the service in 2006. Doctors have signed an agreement at the time of joining.
