CHENNAI: With many patients seeking stem cell treatment to treat blood related disorders, DATRI, a blood stem cell donors registry, organised a cycling rally on Saturday. The objective of the rally, organised along with pro-bikers, from Taramani to Mamallapuram, is to raise awareness on blood stem donation. Over 200 cyclists, young and old, participated in the rally flagged-off by vice-chairman of Cognizant, Lakshmi Narayanan. Raghu Rajagopal, co-founder DATRI, pointed out that it is an irony that for a country like India, with a population of over a billion, there were very few registered blood stem cell donors. "With increasing cases of fatal blood disorders, there is an increasing need for more donors," he said. Vimal Fernandes, a donor, who participated in the rally said, "This donation offers a lot of benefit for people who are in need of a matching blood stem cell. It can give life to someone suffering from a fatal blood disorders."
