The government will soon appoint trained yoga instructors at primary and community health centres in villages and at district hospitals. Basking in the success of successfully organising the International Yoga Day, creating two world records in the process, the Narendra Modi-led government at Centre has now decided to take yoga to the villages. The government will soon appoint trained yoga instructors at primary and community health centres in villages and at district hospitals, AYUSH minister (independent charge) Shripad Yesso Naik said Friday. The minister also announced that a first AYUSH University will be set up in Delhi while five All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) of AYUSH would also be established in Odisha, Delhi, Karnataka, Jharkhand and West Bengal. The university will later give accreditation to AYUSH colleges after analysing their infrastructure and teachers. Naik was in Lucknow to attend a conference of AYUSH medical officers, organised by UP AYUSH Doctors Welfare Association. Talking to media persons after the conference, Naik said a task force of experts of different systems of treatments like ayurveda, yoga and naturopathy, unani, siddha and homeopathy have been formed to study the infrastructure and manpower available in these streams across the country and requirement to cater need of experts at PHCs, CHCs and district hospitals. He said the taskforce will submit its report in next three months and then a roadmap for promotion of AYUSH will be prepared and implemented. Naik said yoga experts from different non-government organisations having certification from Quality Council of India will be appointed to work as instructors at hospitals. The minister said the central government is also considering to provide yoga training in schools from Class V onwards to help students stay fit. “But, practice of yoga will not be mandatory for all. Those who want to keep themselves fit, can adopt yoga,” Naik said.
