Do you need a Stimulating Environment? Depending upon how we count it, the number of people in the world without reliable access to safe drinking water ranges between 780 million and 1.2 billion. The number without a safe and hygienic place to dispose of their personal waste is at least 2.5 billion. Yet decades of development activity by non-profits and governments have not produced lasting solutions. The time is now for Water For People and ONE DROP to pool their talents and resources in the interest of vulnerable communities, families and children in the developing world. Water For People is a USA based non-profit organization which supports people of developing countries improve their quality of life by promoting of locally sustainable drinking water sources, sanitation facilities and health and hygiene programs. The organization believes that access to safe water and adequate sanitation are basic human rights and can help put an end to needless suffering and death from water related preventable diseases. In India, Water For People interventions in West Bengal and in Bihar aims at promoting sustainable systems that facilitate provision of safe water and sanitation to communities and schools. ONE DROP—a Canadian non-profit organization created in 2007 by Cirque du Soleil’s Founder Guy Laliberté—strives to ensure that water is accessible to all, today and forever. ONE DROP significantly and sustainably improves the living conditions though innovative projects which promote self-reliance in communities worldwide. We share the recognition that sustainability and economic empowerment are the foundation of development, and that partners are critical to the success of program implementation. We also hold in common the audacious belief that there can be no exceptions to universal access to water. Together, we bring a full complement of approaches and resources to leave communities and districts healthy, thriving and aid independent. In India, Water For People and ONE DROP joint intervention in Bihar aims at promoting sustainable access to water, sanitation and at improving livelihood of the BOP population in the Sheohar district. The project has three complementary components: (i) access to water, sanitation & hygiene; (ii) social arts for behavioural change and (iii) access to microcredit as a catalyst for economic development. Water For People – India and Water For People India Trust will be responsible for the implementation of the project with a strong support from Water For People – Global and ONE DROP. It is within this context that Water For People India Trust wants to recruit motivated personal to share Water For People and ONE DROP’s visions of building a world where all people have access to safe drinking water and sanitation today and forever. Position: Microfinance Coordinator Number of vacancies: One Location: Sheohar, Bihar Job Summary Reporting to the District Program Officer and working in close collaboration with the Project Manager of ONE DROP, the microfinance coordinator is responsible for overseeing the development of all aspects of the microfinance component, including implementation and execution of the project in Sheohar, Bihar in alignment with Water For People and ONE DROP Strategic Plans and Goals for the realization of sustainable water and sanitation services in the communities. Major Responsibilities - Act as liaison between all microfinance partners and supporting organizations (NGOs & consultants), to facilitate the integration of the Microfinance component with the other two components (WASH and social arts) of the project to achieve the project objectives; - Assist the microfinance partners to develop a strategic and operational plan in line with ONE DROP and Water For People’s Country goals and strategies; - Ensure that the planned and implemented programs by the microfinance partners are in line with ONE DROP and Water For People’s Strategy and approach; - Manage and support microfinance partners to develop and implement quality programs and monitor their effective implementation to achieve positive impacts on the communities; - Look after the faithful implementation of credit policies, regulations, credit and portfolio administration; - Assess the behavior of loans granted; - Conduct visits to microfinance partners (at least 60% of total time) for monitoring the effective implementation of programs; - Ensure clear lines of communication between microfinance partners, other project partners, Water For People and ONE DROP;Work in close collaboration in terms of content with the Project Manager of ONE DROP based in Montreal;Work in coordination with other departments/colleagues – Finance and Accounting, Advocacy, documentation and Human Resources for understand audit issues and follow-up for increased transparency and accountability, conduct baseline/end line & impact assessment; - Contribute to identifying resource peoples for diagnosis and evaluation and draft terms of reference and agreement; - Contribute to the update and implementation of the Project Management Plan; - Assist/facilitate the documentation team to capture success stories and case studies on the positive outcome of implemented microfinance activities; - Play an active role in developing the operational plan, contributing for bi-annual report, donor reporting and Annual review meeting such as RiR; - Develop, analyse and comment on different microfinance activities; - Collect reports from microfinance partners and incorporates them into producing bi-annual, annual and final reports(financial & narrative); - Ensure proper application of methodology and procedures; - Provide administrative and financial management of the microfinance component in collaboration with partner activities. The ideal candidate possesses the following qualifications: - University degree in administration, business management, economics, accounting, etc.; - Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in project management and specifically in the field of microfinance; - Minimum of 3-5 years experience working for an NGO and or INGO in India; - Acquired skills in strategic planning, financial planning, financial projections, performance indicators and portfolio administration of micro credit; - Extensive knowledge in the field of micro-credit and related entities within the sector of micro business and more specifically in the field of agriculture and sanitation; - Strong organizational, logistical, partnership management, communication and facilitation skills; - In-depth knowledge of political and socio economic context of the Country and State of Bihar; - Interest in water, sanitation, livelihood and poverty issues in the context of Bihar and India; - Conflict resolution skills with the ability of building consensus when disagreements arise; - Strong organizational, logistical, partnership management, communication and facilitator skills; - Ability to work under pressure in a dynamic, multicultural and expanding environment; - Capacity to work independently, think outside the box, showing initiative, yet contribute as a team player; - Proficient in Microsoft Office; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and forms of social media. Other working conditions: - Position is based in Sheohar, Bihar with flexibility to travel within the state, to Delhi and other states, and potentially to USA & Canada; - Comfortable working in rural areas and among SC populations; - Fluent (speech & writing) in English and Hindi/Bengali. Good understanding of local languages such as Bajjika/Angika/Bhojpuri/Maithili would be an asset. How to Apply?
