Maharashtra to have Yoga & Naturopathy Council soon Swati Rana, Mumbai
To promote and regulate yoga and naturopathy, Maharashtra state will soon have Yoga and Naturopathy Council. The proposal is already approved by the state cabinet and is expected to get a final nod in the current state assembly session.
The state has decided to finally come up with a council for the recognition of yoga and naturopathy practitioner and institutes. After the formation of the council, all the yoga and naturopathy practitioners practicing in the state and institute has to be registered under the council.
Dr Kuldeep Raj Kohli, director of Ayush, Maharashtra informed that the state cabinet has approved the proposal and Vinod Tawde, education minister, Maharashtra, has shown interest in creating the council with a priority to regulate yoga and naturopathy and to give valid recognition to it. A consultation process with all the yoga and naturopathy associations are completed.
He further says, “We had sent the recommendation to the government for the formation of the council. It was scrutinized by the law and judiciary department and the suggestion given by them has also been incorporated. The step will also help in promoting yoga internationally as there are many Indian practitioners practicing in foreign countries and America and Canada already has a yoga council for the practitioners to register but they do not have any proof that they were practicing in India, So this will give them sort of recognition and if considered by the other countries they may not have to go through the examination to register them with other council.”
Subodh Tiwari, chief executive officer, Kaivalyadhama Yoga Institute says, “We were actively involved in drafting the guidelines of the council. The council will pave way for registrations of yoga teachers, instructors and therapists. It will also provide for accreditation of yoga institutes. This in turn will ensure minimum standards of yoga experts and will streamline the process. If implemented in the spirit, it will do away with the self proclaimed teachers and yoga training institutes.”
